How do metal braces work?

If you start treatment with metal braces, small stainless-steel brackets will be fixed to the front surface of your teeth. Metal wires called archwires will be slotted through the brackets, and held in place with small elastics.

During treatment, you will visit our practice every 6 - 8 weeks for adjustment appointments. Your Specialist Orthodontist will place targeted bends in your archwires to add gentle pressure in the precise places needed to guide your teeth into proper alignment.

How long does treatment with metal braces take?

Every patient is unique, and their custom treatment times vary. In general, we expect treatment with metal braces to take between 9 to 18 months depending on the severity of the case.
